In 2016 Time Magazine named Elena Ferrante one of the 100 most influential people. For those not in the know, Elena Ferrante is a pseudonym for an author whose identity is unknown to the public. I stand to agree and declare her my favorite contemporary author of all time. I miss reading her and think of her books often, so when she started to get adapted on film I felt a new rush of joy and wanted to share these new works with people that might have missed them.

Here we are- in June- Wedding Season for many families including mine. It comes with excitement and joy, hope and good feelings for the young couples. It also brings back sweet memories of the old days. Good romantic movies or books are a great inspiration for recreating that spirit. I am tempted to take a memory walk through some oldies that will put me in the right spot in preparation for this season.

Staying home and indoors this cold winter will find you sometimes in the mood for a good glass of wine with your better half and needing a good movie to go with it. Being Valentine season you can dream together of nice, warmer places , with nice vineyards and a good glass of wine.

Getting ready for the winter season includes finding new DVDs to keep us occupied during the cold and dark months. Here are some suggestions you might consider:

Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Supreme Court Judge , mentor and role model for many women and young people is celebrating 25 years as a Supreme Court Justice. She is also the subject of an upcoming new film this fall called “On the Basis of Sex”. The film, featuring Felicity Jones as a young RBG, is based on a screenplay written by her nephew Daniel Stiepleman and is an intimate look at one of her first cases. This is the only case that she worked on with her husband Marty (played by Armie Hammer). It is a biographical drama and a glimpse at the difference one woman can make. Directed by Mimi Leder the film will come out in December2018. While we wait for the film one could get acquainted with her life and work in another film, a documentary that came out also in 2018 named RBG , directed by Betsy West.

How comes so many of us love musical feature films? Love them or hate them (or just secretly love them), musicals are here to stay. While many love the escapism they provide, others can’t get past the fantastical idea of breaking into song every time something dramatic happens. I for one sure love them and here are a few of my all-time favorites.

As winter settles in we are looking more and more for good “escapes” in the comfort of our homes. Here are some of my favorite movies of 2017 that you can find on our library shelves.
