Summer reading program is back at the Whitefish Bay Public Library from June 12 through August 26.

Back in 2019, when I was in library school and working at the Whitefish Bay Public Library as an intern, my boss put me in charge of hosting a monthly mystery book club. I had been in book clubs for decades, but I had never organized one, so this was a new challenge.

November is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). NaNoWriMo is a creative writing project that encourages people to write 50,000 words during the month of November. What began as a small project in 1999, with just a few people participating, has grown into a word-wide annual event in which over 350,000 novels have been completed. Fasten your seatbelts and get ready to write and Plan your NaNoWriMo Novel with author Rochelle Melander on Wednesday, October 26 at 6:30PM. In this kick-off workshop, you’ll work on exercises to help you choose your genre, create characters, and imagine what might happen! Register on our website.

Hi everyone! Ms. Taylor here. The Summer Reading Program Storytime Session at the Whitefish Bay Public Library has finally wrapped up after six (!) wonderful weeks of beautiful weather, sunshine, and lets face it, some rain and thunder outside at School House Park. I'd like to thank all of the friends, families, and storytime go-ers for their patience, participation, and enthusiasm throughout these sessions! I wanted to share some of my favorites titles and themes that I used over the six weeks so you can read or re-create some of the Monday morning storytimes, too.

Books and Bagels – September 16th Calling all teens! (Grades 6th-12th) Do you love bagels, books, and chatting with friends? Join us outside at School House Park on Thursday, September 16th at 4PM! Our program “Books and Bagels” is dedicated to teens all over to celebrate the new school year with tasty treats from Bruegger’s and a free book to take home.

The Edible Book Festival returns, this time in virtual form. Have you always wanted to participate, but couldn’t find the time? Then this is your year! Make an edible creation, or check out the creativity of others!

While I wear many hats in my role as Head of Youth Services at the Whitefish Bay Public Library, my favorite hat to wear is my programming hat, and I’m lucky to have staff members who feel the same way. (Thanks Valerie, Anders, and Blake!) And, of course, we hope that you love programming too! Between storytimes and our special programs, last year we offered more than 250 programs for babies all the way up to teenagers. It’s a lot of work, but we love the challenge of creating programming that excites and inspires our patrons.
